Some people may say a hero is someone older than you, someone you personally know, someone who has done something everyone knows about, etc. I don’t think a hero necessarily has to be an older person or a close friend or a family member. something great every day, but he has taught me to appreciate some of the simple

things in life.

I am now in 11th grade. When I was in 8th grade, Marcus had a brain tumor

(脑瘤) which had to be removed. Thankfully, the tumor was benign (良性的). When

the doctors removed it, Marcus lost his sight. He felt down only once. Ever since

then, he has been an extremely happy second-grader. He is very typical (典型的) of

a nine-year-old. He likes to tell jokes and play new games, and he likes to play

tricks on people. I love spending time with him. We go to movies whenever there

is a good one and I look after him every chance I get.

I say that Marcus helps me to appreciate the simple things in life. He doesn’t

have his sight and that makes me realize how lucky I am to be able to see, to walk,

and to talk. I can do everything I need to. If everyone could see how happy and

satisfied Marcus is and how much he makes everyone around him happy, then

they might just be able to better appreciate the simple things in life.

D. Because his cousin teaches him to live a rich life.

62. When did Marcus have a brain tumor?

A. Three years ago.B. Four years ago.

C. Six years ago.

D. Nine years ago.

63. What makes the author think himself lucky?

A. Marcus’ simple life. B. Marcus’ happiness.

Besides the excitement of travel, one reason to study abroad is that you will

experience new customs, holidays, foods, art, music, and politics firsthand.

“I learned the language and am now fluent, but perhaps what’s more

important was how much I learned about cultures, people, and myself. I learned

this from the viewpoint of an active member of the community and my host family,

not from the tourist’s point of view,” says Andrew, who studied in Poitiers, France.

Another reason for studying abroad is that you’ll gain self-confidence.

Christina studied in Caracas, Venezuela, a city of 10 million people and a huge

change from her home town of 35,000! Christina says she learned how to better

stand up for herself and her beliefs and to express herself in another language.

What could make you more confident than that?

Living away from home can also help you adjust in the transition (过渡) to

college and adulthood. Mathew says he returned from studying in Australia with

confidence and a real interest in international affairs that made him different from

his peers (同龄人). “After having gone abroad in high school, I found the transition to college to be a breeze — moving 560 miles from home didn’t seem

particularly frightening after having lived thousands of miles away.”

Most of all, it’s fun while you’re studying in a different learning environment.

64. The passage is mainly about _____.

A. the benefits of studying abroad B. living in a foreign country

C. the excitement of travel D. learning a language

65. What did Andrew pay special attention to while studying abroad?

A. Host families.

B. The foreign cultures.

C. Places of interest. D. Community problems.

66. The example of Christina mainly shows that studying abroad can _____.

A. change our habits B. offer us opportunities

C. increase our knowledge D. build our confidence

67. The underlined words “a breeze” in Paragraph 4 probably refer to _____.

A. something very important B. something very interesting

C. something very easy D. something very soft

D

Japanese students work very hard but many are unhappy. They feel heavy

pressures (压力) from their parents. Most students are always told by their parents

to study harder and better so that they can have a wonderful life in the future.

Though this may be a good idea for those very bright students, it can have terrible

results for many students who are not gifted (有天赋的) enough. Many of them

have tried very hard at school but have failed in the exams and have their parents

lose hope. Such students felt that they are hated by everyone else they meet and

they don’t want to go to school any longer. They become dropouts.

It is surprising that though most Japanese parents are worried about their

children, they do not help them in any way. Many parents feel that they are not

able to help their children and that it is the teachers’ work to help their children.

To make matters worse, a lot of parents send their children to those schools

opening in the evenings and on weekends — they only help the students to pass

the exams and never teach them any real sense of the world.

Many Japanese schools usually have rules about everything from the students’ hair to their clothes and things in their school bags. Child psychologists (心理学家) now think that such strict rules are harmful to the feelings of the students. Almost 40% of the students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others, how to tell right from wrong and how to show love and care for others, even for their parents. 68. “Dropouts” are those who _____.
A. make troubles in and out of schools B. go about or stay home instead of being at school C. try hard but always fails in the exams D. lose hope and give up some of their subjects 69. According to the passage, it’s necessary to teach students the following things EXCEPT _____. A. how to tell right from wrong B. how to get on with others C. how to show love and care for others D. how to live by themselves 70. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A. 第二节:书面表达(满分 25 分)
One possible version: Dear Mayor,
I’m writing to give some suggestions to improve our city’s transportation. At present, traffic jams have become a major problem in our city every day. The number of private cars has been increasing. What’s more, some drivers disobey traffic rules, causing traffic jams. In my opinion, measures must be taken to solve this problem. First, the government should encourage people to use public transport more and at same time limit private cars. Second, more lanes and parking lots should be built. Third, it’s important to educate the public to obey traffic rules. I would appreciate it if you could take my suggestions into consideration. I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely, Li Hua
